Liz Martin was born and raised in Lancaster County. She has dedicated her career to serving the community while running two successful businesses and collecting many awards along the way. Liz Martin: Where’d She Go to School?
Liz first went to Penn Manor High School and then Elizabethtown College. She graduated in 1988 with a bachelor’s degree in business while participating in the Society for the Advancement of Management.
The Path to Entrepreneurship
After graduation, Liz managed Martin’s Hatchery and Poultry Farm that was started by her father. Although she enjoyed the hatchery business she was more interested in the insurance industry as she really enjoyed sales and working with a variety of different people.
How Liz Martin Achieved Her Dream
She moved on from Martin’s Hatchery and Poultry Farm in 1996 and purchased her uncle Wilbur Martin’s insurance agency making her the fourth-generation owner of Martin Insurance Agency. She transformed the business from a one-man-shop that operated out of her uncle’s home into a commercial space.
Over the years the insurance agency has grown organically and by acquisitions of other insurance agencies. She now employs thirteen people, and carries a full line of insurance products. Her family-owned business has been operated in Lancaster for more than 100 years.

Liz has her Certified Insurance Counselor Designation (CIC). This is the industry’s premier, source for education. She received her designation from The Society of Certified Insurance Counselors, which is a national organization.
The CIC took five years of extensive classes and tests to complete. She continues to attend annual classes to keep her certification up-to-date. Liz Martin strives to maintain the highest level of education and professionalism in the industry.

She is active in the Lancaster County Community. She is a past President of Lancaster Rotary Club, a committee member for the Lancaster YWCA and the current board chair for ASSETS Lancaster. She is a member of the Lancaster Chamber of Commerce, Pennsylvania Sustained Agriculture (PASA) and Elizabethtown College’s Leadership Council. Liz Martin supports many county-based non-profit organizations and foundations while continuing to oversee Ironstone Spring Farm, her family’s all-natural grass-fed beef farm in Manor Township.
Finally, when she gets a little free time, Liz enjoys being with her family as well as hiking, golfing, reading and exploring the world.
